In September 2025, faculty from SUNY Downstate's NYS-ITRP visited Almaty, Kazakhstan, for the annual Fogarty HIV Research Training Program site visit. This visit advanced the nearly decade-long collaboration with Kazakh National Medical University (KNMU) to build HIV research capacity and address the rising epidemic in Central Asia.
